Pläne für ein NBA Jam-Remake sind im Gange

Zum 25th Jahrestag von NBA Stau there are plans underway to get the game remade for today’s generation of gaming. The original voice of the game, Tim Kitzrow, says he’s in talks with Microsoft to bring back NBA Stau, even though Electronic Arts holds the rights.

In einem Interview mit EPSN, Kitzrow and a few others associated with the ever-so-popular 16-bit arcade basketball game explained how much the game meant, and how there were plans to bring the game back for home consoles.

Tim Kitzrow told ESPN…

“I can’t speak anything to the specifics, but I can tell you there is movement in the works to get it done for the 25th year. So I’m hoping that we get a remake that does justice to the original.”

One interesting tidbit was that they were unable to get Michael Jordan in the game because he owned his own likeness, so sadly gamers were bereft of the greatest of all time being included in the NBA Stau Dienstplan.

Kitzrow is also teaming up with the original creator of the game, Mark Turmell, who was also responsible for bringing the game back in 2010 under the EA license.

According to Turmell, he feels there’s more that can be done, telling ESPN…

“They did a pretty good job. But there’s so much more that can be done. It’s really sort of an untapped category, to have that over-the-top NBA action with the official license. It’s a great brand.”

There’s really no telling exactly what the new game would look like, but Turmell and Kitzrow hope to get the reboot happening sometime this year. They’re currently in talks with Microsoft to publish the title, which could mean that it would end up being a PC and Xbox exclusive.

This is definitely the era of remakes and reboots, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see NBA Stau make a return. Whether or not it could actually fit into today’s gaming landscape without being raped by microtransactions and DLC is a whole other story.
